Recognizing language-based learning differences

Families and teachers may observe some or several of the following symptoms:

  • Late to talk
  • Difficulty with oral or written self-expression
  • Limited vocabulary
  • Short attention span
  • Poor motor skills
  • Trouble identifying the sounds that correspond to letters
  • Difficulty following directions
  • Short and/or long-term memory problems
  • Difficulty with concepts of time, space, and sequencing
  • Low self-esteem
  • Difficulty organizing thoughts
  • Reading problems
  • Poor spelling
  • Difficulty with social skills
  • More than average sensitivity to noises and textures
